Planning

Home to approximately 16,000 people, the neighbourhoods of Citywest, Newcastle, Rathcoole and Saggart are thriving. The ongoing expansion and attraction of new companies to Citywest Business Campus and Grange Castle Business Park confirms this areas status as the place for business and employment.

Detailed local area plans have been designed to ensure that the village cluster will continue to grow as a place for people to live, work and enjoy.

Citywest Business Campus

Citywest & Saggart

Building on the success of Citywest Business Park, the Red Luas line and Citywest Shopping Centre, a vibrant town centre and suburb has been designed for Citywest and Saggart.

With over 400 new homes, primary schools and neighbourhood park already delivered, there is planned development for additional housing, schools, community facilities, employment opportunities and parklands. More details of the plan for the area can be found in the Fortunestown Local Area Plan (LAP), which is valid until May 2022.

Newcastle

With a long history dating back to its establishment as a 13th Century Royal manor, Newcastle Local Area Plan(LAP) seeks to protect its surviving medieval past and its village character, while incorporating new residential communities, including a network of planned parks for people to explore and enjoy.

The Newcastle LAP reinforces this historic and vibrant rural village, with plans for approximately 800 new homes together with additional school, community  and shopping facilities. More details of the plan for the area can be found in the Local Area Plan, which is valid until December 2022.

Rathcoole

With an established village centre, complete with a full range of services and amenities, including schools and a neighbourhood park, the choice of new homes within Rathcoole's village setting continues to grow. New housing is being built and planned in and around Rathcoole's village core which will continue to benefit from access to the N7, local shops, bars and restaurant as well as Rathcoole Park.

At present, there is no local area plan for Rathcoole. The South Dublin County Council Development Plan 2016-2022 incorporates the relevant policies and objectives for the area.
